Keep Your Feet Clean, Dry & Moisturized
Keeping your feet clean and dry will prevent against athlete’s foot, warts and other possible fungal infections. When you have a bath or shower, remember to wash your feet and dry them thoroughly afterwards.
Moisturizing your feet will prevent dryness, cracking and calluses. Try using a lotion or cream specifically designed for the feet.
Inspect Your Feet & Clip Toenails
Check your feet often for any issues like bunions, corns and blisters. Tend to any issues that you find.
Don’t let your toenails get too long. Keeping your toenails clipped will help you avoid ingrown and split nails. Just be careful when you are clipping them by not going too close to the skin. Try to clip your toenails as evenly as possible.
Wear Proper Shoes
Wear shoes that fit properly and are comfortable. If your shoes are worn out, trade them in for a new pair. Consider wearing slippers around the house to protect your feet. Avoid wearing high heels if you can. If you need your feet to be protected, avoid wearing open-toed shoes.
Proper footwear is important because shoes that don’t fit or aren’t suitable for the activity you’re doing can cause issues like foot pain, tendonitis and even stress fractures.
Don’t Walk Barefoot in Public Areas
You should always try to avoid walking barefoot in public areas like the pool or gym locker room, as this increases your risk of fungal infections. Try to wear flip flops in these types of areas if you can. This is especially important if you are using a public shower.
Keep Your Feet Moving
In order to promote good blood flow circulation and overall foot health, keep your feet moving. Whether this is through daily exercise like walking or jogging, or simple foot exercises you can do at home, every bit counts.
See Your Doctor
